Such multiple inclusions are less obvious when they are indirect. For example, a character in a book could say “you are such a nice man” to someone who is, perhaps unbeknown to the speaker, really a murderer. (My 7th grade literature teacher drilled this literary device into our heads a thousand times, along with foreshadowing, and poetic justice, and bildungsroman, and…) So if I understand you correctly,irony stands steadfastly different from facetious and sarcasm?
